Getting Assigned
Beginning in 2010, CTUA will be implementing the Umpire Matching Program (UMP) – www.ustaump.com. UMP is designed as a portal to announce and create Invitations to officials to work Events. The system will allow you to search for and locate events needing officials, get detailed information about the events, Apply to work events for which you have received invitations from UMP, and be Assigned to work events – ALL ONLINE. You do not have to have an “Invitation” to find events and apply to work them, unless it is Invitation Only (IO). Likewise, an Invitation is NOT an Assignment, but rather a request for you to Apply to work an event, and indicate your Availability for that specific event. Bold text refers to actual screen shots in UMP.
The event assignment process is a simple 4-step process:
1. An INVITATION to an event is sent to you.
2. You APPLY or decline to work the event.
3. You are ASSIGNED (or not) to the event.
4. You ACCEPT or decline the event assignment.
You will be prompted through each step with an e-mail generated by UMP by the Event Coordinator.
Detailed instructions for UMP will be sent via e-mail to CTUA members and reviewed briefly at the annual USTA schools in Colorado. Dennis Newman is the CTUA UMP Administrator.
The UMP Event Coordinators (schedulers) will use the following criteria for how people are chosen for assignments: 1) Request of tournament director; 2) Competence; 3) Availability.
If you cannot work an assignment you accepted
Once you have accepted an assignment it is yours to work. If something changes and you find you cannot work your assignment, it is your responsibility to find your replacement. If after many attempts to find a replacement you are unsuccessful, you may contact the person who originally scheduled you and ask them if they can help you with suggestions of officials to contact. It is not the responsibility of the scheduler to find your replacement
